Dumbledore lived in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, in the Headmaster’s office, located in the castle. He was in Gryffindor’s house when he was a wizardly student. As the esteemed headmaster, he resided in this magical institution throughout his tenure in the Harry Potter series.

What Was Dumbledore’s Character?

Dumbledore was the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Wizardry. In the story, he was also the leader and founder of an organization fighting against Lord Voldemort. He was portrayed as a wise man who knows about Harry Potter and the much he was expected to learn. He also knows that Harry will have to learn some lessons through experience by confronting things he should be protected from.

Dumbledore did all these to prepare Harry for what he was going to face in his life. Rowling stated that Dumbledore was homosexual and therefore failed to find love in the movie. She elaborated further, saying that it was the reason behind his flirting with muggles’ wizard domination.

How Was Dumbledore’s Appearance?

Dumbledore was featured as tall and thin, with silver hair and a very long beard that could be tucked into his belt. He has a long crooked nose and long skillful fingers. His eyes were blue and soul-piercing such that they twinkled with mischief and kindness. He spoke in a calm and pleasant voice even when furious.

Before his death, his right hand had a scar that he got when he took off Marvolo Gaunt’s ring as it was cursed. He would have died from the ring had Snape not intervened with a counter-curse. His hand was left with a substantial black mark which was dead-looking and could not be healed. The blackness would spread itself to his entire body resulting in his death. His appearance hid a lot of his steely aspects.

Dumbledore’s Personality

Dumbledore was considered the most powerful wizard in the world. He was wise and benevolent and a good wizard in merlin’s likes. He rarely displayed his anger emotions even when provoked. For this reason, he was the only wizard that lord Voldemort feared. He was whimsical as he always used humor to create a welcoming feeling for people around him.

Dumbledore was eccentric and, to some extent, effeminate. His dressing style was evident as he was fond of knitting patterns and frequently wore flamboyant clothes. He was cunning, which enabled him to comprehend human natures, turning them into better aspects such as love and trust. He valued love as he consistently reminded Harry that love was the most significant and the greatest magic. He also believed in everyone’s goodness and said that everyone deserved a second chance. It was evident that he decided to place some faith in Snape as he showed him some remorse.

What Were Dumbledore’s Magical Abilities?

Dumbledore started showing his magical abilities when he was young. In Hogwarts, he was known to be the most brilliant student who had ever stepped into the school. He did things with his wand that even his examiners had never seen. Most of the things he knew were self-taught, and he excelled more when he met his teachers at Hogwarts, who guided him. His family lineage partially contributed to his great magic. He also exhibited some unusual intelligence in wizardly, which was exceptionally powerful.

Dumbledore was able to conjure the magical everlasting fire known as Gubraithian Fire. He was also the only one who had the ability to become invisible without using the invisibility cloak, a powerful disillusionment charm. He had the ability to transfigure items such as creating sofa chairs from thin air

Additionally, he was also an expert in charms and portions wizardly. It was known that he was the only one who was able to defeat Grindelwald despite her having the elders’ wand using this wizardly. The elders’ wand was the strongest wand that had guaranteed invincibility. He was also famous for defeating the most dangerous dark wizards, including Voldemort. Unlike other wizards who made popping sounds as they apparat, Dumbledore could do it silently. Only he and Voldemort possessed this skill and the ability to speak mermish and Parseltongue (goblin language)

What Were The Other Houses In Hogwarts?

Hogwarts was a wizardly school that was established by Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. It was established to teach young witches and wizards and keep them safe from prosecution by muggles. The school was divided into four houses, each bearing a name from the four funders. They include Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw

As part of their learning, these houses carried out competitions throughout their school years. A house could gain and lose points based on classwork performance and rules violations. Each house had its unique characteristics. They include;

Gryffindor

Gryffindor’s house’s co-values were courage, nerve, chivalry, and bravery. Their mascot was a lion, with their colors being scarlet and gold. Their head of the house was the transformation professor, Minerva McGonagall. The Gryffindor’s common room was among the school’s highest towers, with their entrance on the seventh floor. One had to give the right password to gain access to this room. The password to the Gryffindor’s common room was set when Black Sirius tried to force entry into the tower.

Hufflepuff

The Hufflepuff House valued hard work, loyalty, justice, patience, and loyalty. Their mascot was the badger, with their colors being canary yellow and black. The head of this house was a professor for herbology, Pomona Sprout, and their ghost was the Fat Frair. Most members of the Hufflepuff house were rough correspondents of Earth’s elements.

The entrance to their dormitories was concealed with a pile of large barrels. To gain entry, one had to use the Helga Hufflepuff rhythm and tap the second barrel from the bottom situated at the second row. The room was filled with yellow chairs and small tunnels that led to their dormitories.

Ravenclaw House

The house’s values were wisdom, learning, wit, and intelligence. The eagle was their mascot, with blue and bronze being their colors and the head of the house was the charms teacher, Professor Flitwick, and the Grey Lady’s ghost. Members of this house were known to be correspondents of the air element. Their common room was round, filled with blue hanging chairs. Members had to solve a riddle to gain entry into their common room. This method made it easier for other students from other houses to gain entry. All that was required was a high degree level of intelligence to solve a riddle.

Slytherin

Their common values were resourcefulness, leadership ambition, and cunning such that they were willing to do anything to get things their way. Their mascot was a serpent, and their colors were green and silver. The head of the Slytherin house was Professor Severus Snape with their ghost being the bloody baron. Members of this house corresponded with water. Their common room and dormitories were accessed by speaking their password to a bare rock in the wall of dungeons. It made their hidden doors open, exposing their common room, which had a greenish glow.

Members of this house claimed to be of pure blood. However, as much as they wanted to maintain the house as pure blood, some muggle-borns were still sorted in. There were half-bloods in the house, such as Voldemort and Harry. But, Harry excluded himself from the house for his insistence. At one point, Voldemort thought that Harry was dead.  He then tried to abolish the other houses. He aimed to do away with them and force every student into Slytherin after being defeated and killed. Slytherin became more diluted in terms of blood purity and lost its pureblood bastion as it once claimed.

How Students Are Placed In Their Respective Houses In Hogwarts

In Hogwarts School of Wizardly, there were four houses in which students were placed using the sorting hat. The process took place on the first day of their school admission. Gryffindor’s house was the only one that students could choose other than using the sorting hat. For example, when Harry was sorted in the Slytherin house, he begged the hat to place him in any other house. Despite the sorting hat suggesting that he would do well in Slytherin, he was brave enough to reject it.

For this reason, the hat then suggested Gryffindor, which was symbolized by bravery. His friend Ron could have also been sorted in any other house but ended up in Gryffindor.

Conclusion

Dumbledore was once a student at Hogwarts before he became the headmaster. Hogwarts, a wizardly school for young witches and wizards, had four houses: Slytherin, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. Dumbledore was in the Gryffindor house the same as Harry after he insisted on walking out from Slytherin. Dumbledore was one of the strongest wizards globally, which was proven after he succeeded in overcoming the strongest dark wizards such as Voldemort.
