There are innumerable dishes all around the world. Each place has its signature dish. And if you are a foodie, you have a huge plethora of cuisines to choose from and try. But if someone asks you that are there any foods that start with the letter G, what would be your answer? Well, if you ask me, I will suggest, Yes, definitely there are food items or dishes around the world that start with the letter G! And not only do they taste delicious but also, they have excellent nutritional quality. These G lettered dishes can either be your staple food or signature dish. And since you have come to know that food that starts with G exists, here are the names of some and a little about them.
1. Greek Yogurt
One of the most common G-named food that you can find in anyone’s fridge is Greek yogurt. Now one of the basic questions that many of you might have thought of is what’s the difference between regular yogurt and Greek yogurt. As Greek yogurt is strained, so it is much creamier and denser than regular yogurt. Also, unlike regular yogurt, Greek yogurt has a high protein quantity making your tummy feel “full”. That is the reason why people who are health conscious choose Greek yogurt over regular yogurt.
2. Ghee
If you are an Asian, especially Indian or Pakistani, Ghee is a household food item. Ghee, known as clarified butter, is made from milk. Previously Ghee used to be made in almost all houses by heating the milk at medium flame until all the water present in the milk gets evaporated and the remaining solids can be strained and skimmed. After straining and skimming, the liquid fat obtained from the milk is known as Ghee. It is a good protein source and a valuable fat substitute. Apart from having different kinds of nutritional qualities, Ghee is used instead of cooking oil in many dishes to enhance the smell, flavor, and taste.
3. Guava
This exactly isn’t a food but a fruit that is well known by many of us! Mainly guavas are grown in the subtropical as well as tropical areas of the world. Guavas are an excellent source of potassium. Apart from being a rich potassium source, they also serve as fibers, helping you eliminate constipation and make sure that you don’t feel bloated.
Recent studies have shown that adding guava to your food plate lowers the risk of having cancer and also boosts your immunity. As it is a source of both Vitamin A and C, many doctors prescribe them for pregnant ladies. So, if you have an apple in your diet, you can jolly well switch it up with guava as it has much more nutritional value than that of the apple.
4. Guacamole
If you are from Texas or Mexico, then probably you have grown up having this. As for the rest, I am sure many of you have heard the name. Generally, this dish can be used as a dip or a spread, or as a salad. If you want to make this dish at home, all you need to put avocados, tomatoes, 6-7 cloves of garlic (depending upon the quantity you are making), lime juice (as per your savory taste) cilantro in a blender and blend it into a chunky paste. And voila, your Guacamole is ready!
Since the dish is prepared mainly by avocados, a rich source of potassium, monounsaturated fats, and proteins, it increases the food’s nutritional value!
5. Granola
I’m sure this food is present on more than half of people’s shelves. This is probably the most common staple breakfast for most of us. Granola is not made out of a single item; rather, it is an amalgamation of rolled oats, nuts, sometimes dried fruits, sweeteners like brown sugar or honey, which are toasted till they turn golden brown and also crisply baked. This food can be eaten as a healthy breakfast option and can be treated as a snack when you get hunger pangs.
Having granola with milk or Greek yogurt enhances the nutritional value of the food. And if you like to try out new tasty yet healthy food, you can go ahead and make granola bars, which will supplement your chocolate bars or granola cookies. What are you waiting for? Gateau is a French term that means foam cake or sponge and the name does its justice too. The Gateau is puffy, airy, soft, and light, unlike normal cakes as it is made by no leavening agent the cake.
So, if you want anything sweet like a dessert or something or have a craving for a cake, you can surely go for Gateau. But one thing you must remember is that having a slice of Gateau can increase your calorie intake because each serving contains 257 calories. So be a bit careful while you gobble on that Gateau.
7. Gumbo
If you are a soup lover, then you can definitely try this dish out. Gumbo is the staple cuisine of Louisiana. This cuisine is made by mixing broth, shrimps/chicken/fish, onions, bell pepper, and celery! You can savor it with bread or rice or salad. The main ingredients that enhance the flavor of the soup are okra and roux. This cuisine is a delight for wintry days!
8. Ginger
Ginger is an ingredient that has been used for centuries in cooking. It is often paired with other spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and pepper. Ginger can be found in everything from savory dishes to sweet desserts.
9. Grapefruit
Grapefruit is the fruit that comes from the Citrus species and it can be found everywhere in North America and Europe. The most common types of grapefruit are white and pink-fleshed varieties that ripen into yellow or red at harvest time. Grapefruit is best known for its tart flavor which makes it a great addition to many fruit salads and fruit cup variations. It is often the most common ingredient in the Mediterranean diet.
